What Is Cetrimonium Chloride?
Cetrimonium Chloride is a cationic (positively charged) quaternary ammonium compound used as a conditioning agent and detangler. It has a shorter carbon chain (C16) than Behentrimonium Chloride (C22), making it lighter and more suitable for fine and normal hair types. It is widely used in rinse-off conditioners and detangling sprays.
Source: Coconut or palm fatty acids (chemically modified)
Origin: Semi-synthetic
Also known as: CTAC, Cetyltrimethylammonium Chloride, Palmityl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride
What Does Cetrimonium Chloride Do to Your Hair?
Cetrimonium Chloride deposits onto the negatively charged hair surface to form a lubricating, anti-static film. This film reduces friction between strands, making hair easier to comb and style. Being lighter than behentrimonium chloride, it provides conditioning without weighing down fine or thin hair. It also has mild antimicrobial properties.
