What Is Polyquaternium-7?
Polyquaternium-7 is a cationic conditioning polymer formed from acrylamide and DADMAC (diallyldimethylammonium chloride). It provides excellent conditioning, anti-static, and film-forming properties in hair care products. It is widely used in both rinse-off and leave-on products and provides a heavier, more substantive conditioning feel than Polyquaternium-10.
Source: Chemically synthesized (acrylamide + DADMAC copolymer)
Origin: Synthetic
Also known as: PQ-7, Merquat 550
What Does Polyquaternium-7 Do to Your Hair?
Polyquaternium-7 deposits onto negatively charged hair surfaces to form a conditioning, anti-static film. It provides stronger hold and more substantive conditioning than PQ-10, making it popular in styling products as well as conditioners. It improves wet combability, adds body, and helps maintain hairstyles by providing flexible hold.
